About Casanova

Casanova is a charming and incredibly friendly Valais Blacknose sheep who lives happily with his woolly friends at the Sheep Sanctuary in Whitby.

Our sheep hugging experience with Sharon was absolutely heartwarming, her genuine love and deep bond with the flock is truly beautiful to witness.

We also adored our stay in the enchanted hut, tucked away in the magical forest. Waking up to the gentle bleats of our fluffy neighbours made the experience unforgettable. The sanctuary itself is wonderfully picturesque, a peaceful escape surrounded by nature (and lots of cuddly sheep!).

Fun Facts About Sheep!

  • Sheep can recognise up to 50 different faces, both sheep and human and remember them for years!
  • The Valais Blacknose breed, like Casanova, is often called the "cutest sheep in the world" thanks to their curly coats and adorable black faces.
  • Sheep have an incredible sense of smell and can even recognise their shepherd's voice.
  • Sheep have excellent peripheral vision, their rectangular pupils let them see almost 360 degrees around!
  • They're surprisingly smart: sheep can learn their names, navigate mazes, and even solve simple problems.
  • Each sheep has a unique bleat, which helps mothers and lambs recognise each other's calls.
  • Despite the saying "sheep follow the crowd," they're actually quite smart and have strong individual personalities.
