Harrison lives happily with the main herd at the Retreat, surrounded by love and care.

His rescue began when a dairy farmer reached out to the Retreat about a group of newborn male calves, all under a week old. With no future in the dairy industry, these little ones were at risk of being killed the very next day. Tragically, this is the fate faced by millions of calves each year. In the dairy industry, male calves are considered useless because they cannot produce milk and are usually killed or sold for veal.

When the team arrived at the farm, they were met by 15 scared and vulnerable baby boys. Among them was Harrison, the smallest and most fragile, suffering from painful abscesses on his knees. The Retreat welcomed him into their care, and thankfully, the remaining calves were also taken in by other sanctuaries.

From the moment Harrison arrived, he received gentle, dedicated treatment and began settling into his new home. He was lovingly adopted by Princess, a nurturing cow who played a vital role in his recovery. Her affection and protection were instrumental in helping him heal, both physically and emotionally. With time, Harrison’s confidence blossomed, revealing a spirited and playful personality.

Cows are incredibly emotional animals who form deep bonds, and Harrison is a wonderful example of this. He is cherished by his herd and human caregivers alike, often seen sharing tender moments with his friends, grooming, snuggling, and stepping into the role of a big brother with pride.

Harrison is also very well known for his naughtiness and being a master escape artist, constantly finding new ways to jump the gates, but he always manages to charm his way back into everyone’s good books and knows full well that he’s got his humans wrapped around his hooves.
